apibrėžtis Tarptautinė sporto organizacija, vienijanti nacionalines sunkiosios atletikos federacijas, plėtojanti šią sporto šaką pasaulyje. Įkurta 1892 m. Iki 1968 m. buvo vadinama Tarptautine sunkiosios atletikos ir kultūrizmo federacija. Oficialiosios kalbos – anglų, prancūzų, ispanų ir vokiečių. Aukščiausiasis organas – kongresas, šaukiamas kasmet per pasaulio čempionatą arba olimpines žaidynes. 2000 m. vienijo 167 šalių sunkiosios atletikos federacijas.
